Red cell aplasia in myelodysplastic syndrome.

چکیده
Six cases of red cell aplasia occurring in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) showed a diversity of clinical course and prognosis. In some patients red cell aplasia may have represented an evolution of MDS while in others autoimmune destruction of erythoblasts may have been the mechanism. A proliferative phase is seen in many of these patients, the clinical importance of which is uncertain.

Myelodysplastic Syndrome with Erythroid Aplasia following Pure Red Cell Aplasia
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with erythroid aplasia is a very rare disorder that has not been clearly defined. We experienced a case of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA), which evolved to MDS with erythroid aplasia. A 59-year-old male with transfusion-dependent PRCA was referred to our hospital for an evaluation of newly developed thrombocytopenia. Two years ago, PRCA was diagnosed by the laborato...

Three patients with chronic red cell aplasia also showed thrombocytosis or granulocytosis, or both. All had morphological evidence of myelodysplasia on examination of bone marrow aspirate but none had a detectable chromosomal abnormality. These patients seem to provide evidence of a separate entity within the spectrum of myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative disease.
متن کاملMyelodysplastic syndrome with erythroid hypoplasia.
The incidence of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia is probably underestimated because in most patients it is mistaken for acquired pure red blood cell aplasia. This report describes three children who fulfilled the criteria for MDS with erythroid hypoplasia/aplasia. All these patients had transfusion dependent anaemia, reticulocytopenia, erythroid hypoplasia/aplas...
متن کاملStudies on pure red cell aplasia. X. Association with acute leukemia and significance of bone marrow karyotype abnormalities.
Thirty-one patients with chronic primary pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) had blood and marrow cell karyotypes performed prior to immunosuppressive treatment. Only one patient had an abnormal marrow cell karyotype, which revealed a clone of hyperdiploid cells with 47 chromosomes (47, XV, + G). His blood cell karyotype was normal. This patient had no erythroid response to prednisone and cyclophospha...
متن کاملRange Determination of Antigen Expression in Myeloid, Erythroid and Lymphoid Cell Lineages among Patients with Myelodysplastic Syndrome
Background: Myelodysplastic syndrome is a mixed clonal disorder of bone marrow progenitor cells. Understanding the pattern of the different lineage-specific, immature, and mature markers in myelodysplastic syndrome will help in setting-up the frame of reference to diagnose. Patients and Methods: We compared 60 bone marrow samples from 30 newly-diagnosed patients with myelodysplastic syndrome ...
